Starkweather Cancels Classes After Student Threat

The alternative high school in Plymouth is closed to students Wednesday.

Plymouth-Canton Schools decided to cancel classes at Starkweather Alternative High School Wednesday as a precautionary measure, according to news reports.

The district made the decision following an off-campus fight between two students earlier this week, and then a threat that came in overnight Tuesday.

“The safety of our students and our staff is always the priority,” Frank Ruggirello, the district’s director of community relations, told the Plymouth Observer. “No one has been hurt, and there’s no imminent danger. But in light of what happened last month (the shooting in Newtown, CT), “This is us erring on the side of safety, which we’re always going to do.”

According to The Detroit News, the district is not sure whether the threat is related to the fight between the students.

Acording to the Observer, Plymouth Township police were at the school inspecting the building Wednesday morning. Teachers also reported to work on Wednesday.
