She's just 8, but she made her voice heard before Plymouth-Canton school board.

Whiz Kid: Meghan Wing, 8

School: Fiegel Elementary

Accomplishment: Meghan, a second grader, stood on a milk crate and, reading from notes she printed on lined paper, made a public appeal to the Plymouth-Canton school board member to keep Fiegel Elementary, slated to close under a proposed budget that slashes $18 million from district spending for next year and cuts 269 jobs.

"Fiegel is so close to me. It is right in my backyard. I had the best teachers!" she said in part, closing with "Fiegel gave me a chance to be friendly. Please keep Fiegel open."

Key to Awesomeness: "She loves her school and she wanted to do this," said her beaming mother, Kristina Wing, who, with her husband Pat Wing, stood silently alongside their daughter as she spoke during Tuesday's school board meeting. The family lives in Plymouth.
