Aficionados of wine, craft beer and local food can sample a wide selection while helping their local school district March 8 at the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Educational Excellence Foundation charity wine tasting event at Fox Hills Golf & Banquet Center in Plymouth Township.
The fundraiser, now in its third year, offers more than 60 varieties of wine and beer, including a worldwide wine selection and Michigan-brewed craft beer offerings. Proceeds go toward teacher grants in the Plymouth-Canton school district.
The event runs from 7-11 p.m., with pourings taking place from 7-9:30 p.m.
According to event chairman Jim Harb, last year’s event drew more than 400 attendees and raised more than $32,000 in grant money for the schools.
“It’s a good night for a good cause,” Harb said.
The Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Educational Excellence Foundation helps raise funds to benefit the district's schools through grants and other contributions.
Local celebrity wine pourers will treat attendees to samples of the various beverages, while local dining establishments offer tastes of some of their popular dishes.
“It’s a nice, social way to interact with local people,” Harb said.
There will be a silent auction at the event and a current web-based live auction with items including a “Land a Deal on Wheels” auction, where seven local dealers chipped in a total of $7,000 toward $1,000 and $2,000 gift certificates that can be used at any of the participating dealers, including Lou LaRiche Chevrolet, Victory Honda, Jack Demmer Ford, Dick Scott Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram, Tennyson Chevrolet, Hines Park Lincoln and Atchinson Ford. Bidding for these certificates starts at about half of the value of the certificate, Harb said.
Tickets, which went on sale Feb. 2, are $40 and are available at the Guest Services counter at any Busch’s Fresh Food Market location, including the local store at Sheldon Road and 5 Mile.
