Canton Cup Continues, So May Rain

The 29th Annual Canton Cup was extended through Monday after rain flooded some soccer fields.

The Canton Cup's Sunday matches, some slated to begin at 7 a.m. again face some weather threats.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement warning drivers of dense and patchy fog throughout the region, which has reduced visibility in some places to about a quarter of a mile. While the weather service indicated the fog will disappear by mid-morning, the forecast indicates a 60 percent chance of storms. Winds up to 60 miles an hour are possible, as is heavy rainfall, hail up to 1 inch in diameter and the potential for thunderstorms or tornados, according to the National Weather Service statement. The storm activity could develop in late morning, with the worst weather coming between 3 and 9 p.m., according to the weather statement.

The 3-day annual soccer tournament, organized by the Canton Soccer Club and now in its 29th year, has been extended through Monday to accommodate weather-driven changes after some fields were too flooded to use.
