Canton Gymnastics Places Second at State Competition

Canton was beat by Grand Ledge for a third time.

For the third year in a row, the Canton High School gymnastics team was the runner-up for the state title after team competition Friday.

Grand Ledge won the state title for the sixth year in a row with a total score of 149.350. Canton followed with a total score of 145.750.

"It's not disappointing," Canton coach John Cunningham told The Detroit News. "We had to have a great day and hope Grand Ledge didn't. I couldn't be prouder of my kids."

Plymouth High School also competed, placing fifth, and Salem High School placed 11th.

According to the MHSAA, P-CEP's high schools took the top three places at the regional competition on March 2, which qualified them for the finals.
