Canton Patch's Whiz Kid of the Week: Daniel Adsit

Salem senior Dan Adsit is a finalist for a statewide scholarship program.

  • Name: Daniel Adsit, 18
  • School:
  • Accomplishment: Dan is one of 24 students eligible for the MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award.
  • Key to Awesomeness: Dan Adsit spends “lots of late nights” trying to find a balance between sports and studies throughout the year. The Salem senior is busy year-round as a member of varsity soccer, club soccer and track and field. The only thing that kept him from playing basketball in addition to his other sports was an injury. In soccer, he is a midfielder and in track, he runs the quarter mile, half mile, mile, and long jump. Even with all that running, he is never run-down, earning a 4.07 GPA with two AP classes and three Honors classes on his schedule. Dan has looked at some of the top schools in the country, including Duke, but there has only ever been one choice for him — the University of Michigan. Dan hopes a $1,000 scholarship for winning the MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award can go toward his U of M tuition, where he would study mechanical engineering.
