Four Plymouth Whalers Might Not Be Home For The Holidays

Wedgewood, Levi, Miller, Rakell all receive World Junior Championship bids.

Plymouth Whalers Scott Wedgewood, Rickard Rakell, Austin Levi and J.T. Miller have an opportunity to represent their respective countries on the world stage over the Christmas holidays.

All four players have received invitations to try out for their countries' World Junior Championship teams - Wedgewood with Canada, Miller and Levi with the United States and Rakell with Sweden.

The 2012 World Junior Championships will be played Dec. 26-Jan. 5 and feature many of the top 18 and 19-year-old players in the world.

On Monday, Miller and Levi were announced by USA Hockey as one of 29 players to be invited to try out for Team USA.  Team USA will hold a preliminary camp starting Dec. 17.

Rakell's appointment to Team Sweden means he's made Team Sweden for two consecutive seasons.

Another Whaler may be selected.  Defenseman Dario Trutmann played last season for Switerland and may be selected for this year's tournament.

Meanwhile the first-place Whalers (19-8-2-1) are home for a pair of games this weekend, hosting Belleville (19-9-0-0, first place East Division) on Friday and Sarnia (17-71-4, second place, West Division) on Saturday.  Both games start at 7:05 p.m. at .
