Four Whalers Named to 2012 World Junior Championship Teams

Miller to U.S., Wedgewood to Canada, Trutmann to Swiss, Rakell to Sweden.

The Plymouth Whalers will be well represented at the 2012 World Junior Championships, being played this year from Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.  Four Whalers will play in this season's World Junior Championships.

USA Hockey announced the 22-man roster for Team USA Thursday morning. Plymouth forward J.T. Miller was named to the team.

Earlier, goaltender Scott Wedgewood was named to Team Canada, center Rickard Rakell made Team Sweden and defenseman Dario Trutmann was named for Team Switzerland.  Here's the roster of all of the teams in this year's World Junior Championship.

Rakell and Trutmann are playing for the second year for their countries; Miller and Wedgewood are playing for their respective countries for the first time.

The last time Plymouth had at least four players in the World Junior Championships came in 2002, when five Whalers participated. Chad LaRose, Kris Vernarsky and Jason Bacashihua for the United States, Stephen Weiss for Canada and Libor Ustrnul for the Czech Republic.

In addition, Plymouth rookie Mitchell Dempsey has been named to Team Ontario for the 2012 World Hockey Under-17 Challenge, being played from Dec. 28-Jan. 4 at Windsor Family Credit Union.
