PCEP Girls Soccer Teams Kick Off 2012 Season

Park teams show promise on the pitch in season openers.

The 2012 girls soccer season is under way at Plymouth-Canton Educational Park.

Trying to match the success of its , the Canton Chiefs look to defend their district title and compete for a state crown.

They will have to do so without goaltender Kayla Bridges and midfielder Melanie Pickert, the Canton Observer reported.

Even with younger legs in the lineup, the Chiefs managed to tally two non-league ties this week, 1-1 on Thursday against defending state champion Novi and 1-1 on Tuesday against Saline.

The Chiefs will hit the field again in their season opener against Livonia Franklin on April 17, after the schools' spring break concludes.

Goaltender leads Plymouth to 1-1 tie

Also managing a tie against Novi, the Plymouth Wildcats succeeded Monday in large part because of sophomore goaltender Kylie Robb, who tallie three saves against last year's champs.

Among Robb's saves were two clutch saves nine minutes into the second half, the Canton Observer reported.

The two teams had met two years prior in the state championship, which was won by Novi.

Plymouth also returns to action April 17 at John Glenn as its league season begins.

Salem gets off to fast start

The only park team to notch a win in its first week of action, Salem Rocks surged for two late goals Monday for a 3-1 win over Ann Arbor Skyline in a game at Plymouth-Canton Educational Park's turf field.
