Plymouth Player Gets Ready for Spartans New Season

John Jakubik will be on the roster when Michigan State opens its 2012 season tonight against Boise State.

When the Spartan football team gathers on their sideline for the season-opening kickoff in tonight's game against Boise State, you'll want to look for a local gridiron hero.

Whether you are in the stands or watching on TV, keep an eye out for #89. That's John Jakubik, the 6'-0" sophomore wide receiver from Plymouth. Jakubik, the son of Paul and Louise Jakubik, is a second-year walk-on from Kalamazoo College. He played high school football at Detroit Catholic Central. During the 2010 season at Kalamazoo College, he had 21 receptions for 244 yards (11.6 avg.) and three touchdowns, returned 10 kickoffs for 200 yards (20.0 avg.), and returned five punts for 41 yards (8.2 avg.), according to the MSU media guide. He red-shirted the 2011 season.

Michigan State is ranked 13th and Boise State 24th in the Associated Press' preseason poll. ESPN.com predicts tonight's game in East Lansing will be a slugfest. Catch the action at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
