Prep Football Roundup: Canton, Plymouth Stay Perfect; Novi Tops Salem

Salem drops third straight, in a 42-0 blanking to Novi.

Canton and Plymouth varsity football squads emerged from Friday night’s action unbeaten, improving to perfect 4-0 records.

The Canton Chiefs rolled Wayne Memorial 47-14, while the Plymouth Wildcats notched their second straight shut-out, knocking off Livonia Churchill 41-0.

“I think the entire defense played their tails off,” said Mike Sawchuck, Plymouth’s head coach. “The offensive coaching staff did a great job in their game planning for Churchill.”

“We had some dropped balls that didn’t help us out,” said Kurt Britnell, Salem’s head coach, who said that they had to bring up sophomore junior varsity quarterback Justin Sydlowski for the game to replace junior Jacob Deprez who injured his shoulder in last week’s game against South Lyon.

Despite the loss, Britnell said that Sydlowski “played with a lot of poise,” while throwing for 110 yards, going 7-22 with one interception. Salem dropped to 1-3 on the season, while Novi improved their record to 2-2.

Britnell said that Deprez is expected to start in next week's game against Northville.
