Plymouth Whalers' Scott Wedgewood Receives Canadian National Junior Team Invitation

New Jersey Devils draft pick posted 0.931 save percentage in November.

Plymouth goaltender Scott Wedgewood could be very busy over the Christmas holidays and not necessarily with the Whalers.

Wedgewood is among 39 players to receive an invitation to the 2012 Canadian National Junior Team Selection Camp in Calgary, AB. The camp runs from Dec. 10-14, 2011 at the WinSport Canada Athletic & Ice Complex in Calgary.

Wedgewood joins Niagara IceDogs goaltender Mike Visentin, Medicine Hat's Tyler Bunz and Quebec's Louis Domingue as the four goaltenders selected.

Wedgewood, 19, has steadily improved since the start of the season.  In November, Wedgewood posted a 2.11 goals against average, 0.931 save percentage and 6-1-0-1 won-loss record with two shutouts in eight games over the month.  In 18 games this season, Wedgewood has a 2.98 goals against average, 0.906 save percentage, two shutouts and a 10-5-2-1 won-lost record.

Wedgewood has been consistent throughout his Whalers career with a 3.09 goals against average, 0.907 save percentage and 43-34-3-2 won-lost record with five shutouts in 97 games.

Soon, Wedgewood will become the seventh goaltender in franchise history to play in at least 100 games in his Whalers career, joining Rob Zepp (1998-01), who played in 139 games; Paul Drew (2000-04), 132; Matt Hackett (2007-10), 129; Robert Esche (1995-98), 129; Jason Saal (1992-95), 119; and Ryan Nie (2002-06), 100.

The Whalers are off until Friday when they host Sault Ste. Marie at 7:05 p.m. at .  The Whalers will have a blood drive Friday at Compuware Arena from Noon-6 p.m.  Anyone attempting to give blood will receive a ticket to the game that evening.
