Plymouth-Canton Wrestlers Compete at State Finals in Auburn Hills

Canton's Ben Griffen finishes sixth, Plymouth's Mohamad Yousset Jr. finishes seventh at Palace of Auburn Hills.

The 2013 MHSAA Individual State Finals were held at The Palace of Auburn Hills this past Thursday-Saturday. The best of the best in D1, D2, D3 and D4 were represented in Auburn Hills, including some star athletes from Plymouth-Canton Community Schools: 

  • Canton: Fourth-ranked Ben Griffin at 125 started strong but found himself battling back in the blood rounds for a 6th place finish in what was considered one of the deepest weight classes this season. Griffin finished his junior season 51-7. 
  • Salem: Tenth-ranked Tyler Gross had a rough day at the MHSAA State Finals. He finished his senior year 39-9. 
  • Plymouth: Third-ranked 103-pounder Mohamad Youssef Jr. was upset early the first round by Honorable Mention-ranked Brendan Hazelton of L'anse Cruese and found himself battling back for a 7th place finish. Youssef finishes his Junior year at 52-5. 

    Senior Trey Berry found himself up against some very tough competitors and ended his season before the placing rounds. He finishes his senior year at 40-17 Junior at 135 and ninth ranked Jon Conn Jr. had a tough day and did not qualify for the quarter finals. He finishes his Junior season 45-14. Senior Alec Brekenridge wasn't able to qualify for the quarter finals finishing his senior year with an impressive 46-11 record.
