Organizer Calls This Year's Art in the Park "Record-Breaking"

Art in the Park wrapped up its 34th year Sunday night.

While there is not an exact count of how many people attended the 34th Annual Art in the Park in downtown Plymouth this past weekend, Raychel Rork, one of the event organizers, said it was record-breaking.

"The shuttles were extremely busy to the point where we scrambled to add an additional bus on sunday," she said.

As a free event without a gate or entry point, it's hard to estimate the number of attendees. Rork said the ways they have estimated attendance in the past is through police estimating the number of police per square foot as well as marketing sampling by giving away free products.

"We don't have an exact number, but it's in the hundreds of thousands over the three days," she said.

Rork said the event went very well, especially with the weather.

"Not one drop of rain is always a huge ease on our mind and all the artists as well," she said. "I think that everything went very, very smoothly, as far as on our half with everybody on our team, all the volunteers and all the artists, so far we've heard tons of great news. We had people sell out and have to leave because they had nothing left, which is a great problem to have."

Rork said kids activities at Art in the Park were really busy, including the Duck Tape bus.

"I stood in line with my kids for 40 minutes so they could each make a duct tape bracelet," she said.

In addition, Rork heard a lot of good things about this year's chalk mural.

"We got rave reviews - it was a different take on it," she said. "A lot of time we do a classic masterpiece. This year, we did the movie posters instead and it sort of crosses generations. Little kids liked it, Grandpa liked it too."
