Schmitty Strikes Gold Again: Canton Grad Anchors Winning Relay Team

One day removed from her first gold medal, Canton's Allison Schmitt earns her second gold medal and fourth overall medal of 2012 Olympic Games.

The hardware keeps piling up for Canton's Allison Schmitt at the 2012 London Olympics.

The 2008 grad by fans and the media anchored the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay today, leading to a gold-medal finish, her second gold medal in two days, according to CBS News.

Schmitt, 22,  Tuesday, far outpacing her competition in the women's 200-meter freestyle final, setting an Olympic record.

Like Tuesday's result, Schmitt's finish set a new Olympic record, with her relay team of Missy Franklin, Dana Vollmer and Shannon Freeland setting the new Olympic mark at 7 minutes, 42.92 seconds, CBS News reported.

Today's medal win marks the fourth this year for Schmitt, who on Sunday on Saturday.

Schmitt is the daughter of Ralph and Gail Schmitt of Canton, and was a member of the Plymouth-Canton Cruisers swim club as a fledgling elite swimmer.
