What's Open and Closed This Memorial Day

Memorial Day is Monday, and while most workplaces are closed and the barbecues are fired up, you still may need to get out and around Plymouth and Canton. Here's what you need to know about what's open and closed.

Area offices

• City of Plymouth: City business will have to wait until Thursday as City Hall will be closed Monday. City residents who experience trash pick-up on Wednesdays will have their trash picked up on Thursday instead.
• Plymouth Township: Plymouth Township Hall will be closed for the holiday.
• Canton Township: The township administration building will be closed for the holiday. 
• Mail: The U.S. Postal Service will not have any post offices open on Memorial Day, nor will there be any mail delivery or pickup.
• Trash collection: Trash, recycle and compost collection services will be delayed by one day the week for City of Plymouth, Plymouth Township and Canton Township
• Emergency: Always call 911 for police and fire emergencies as well as for any suspicious activity.

Around town

• Main Street: Main Street and all of its intersections will be closed from Church Street to the High School as the Fourth of July Parade kicks off at 10 a.m.
• Library: Both the Plymouth District Library and Canton Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Canton will reopen on Tuesday, May 28 at 9 a.m. while Plymouth reopens at 9:30 a.m.
• Entertainment: Catch the latest movie at Emagine Canton or Canton Cinema, both are open Memorial Day. New releases this weekend include "Fast & Furious 6," "The Hangover Part III" and "Epic."
• Shopping: Take advantage of all the Memorial Day sales in the many shopping centers in Plymouth and Canton.
