Canton Food Drive by Dodson Junior Girl Scouts Nets Nearly 3,000 donations

The Girl Scouts collected food for the Open Door Ministry food pantry.

When the finished their food drive for Open Door Ministry, they did more than earn a Bronze Award — the highest honor for a Junior Girl Scout.

"It was such a great experience to see first hand how our food drives are helping people every day," said troop leader Vicki Sheahan, whose daughter Caitlin is a Junior Girl Scout.

Altogether, the girls from Dodson Elementary-based troop collected 2,751 items of food, from classmates and during a 3-hour stint at — a huge success, Sheahan said — and they had fun doing it.

"I also just want to say that I have so enjoyed overseeing this project with the girls. It has been so exciting for me to see the girls grow and develop as leaders as they accomplished key steps in the project and inspire others to support their cause. It's things like this that give us all pause to think we can all make a difference in the world, one step at a time!" Sheahan said.
