Girls on the Run 'Burn Up' Holly 5k

Girls from the Bird Elementary team learn life skills while training for running events.

Noelle Miller, a long-time Bird Elementary School Girls on the Run team member, celebrates after participating in the Saturday morning New Balance Girls on the Run 5k at Camp Ohiyesa in Holly, MI.

"They'll have to rebuild the course because our team burned it up," wrote Melanie Bowling, the Bird Elementary team's coach.

The Girls on the Run program helps girls in third through eighth grade develop skills for personal success, while aiming at preventing substance abuse, eating disorders, early onset of sexual activity, depression, suicide attempts and other forms of self harm.
