Whalers, Meijer Look to Team Up With Schools for Food Drive

Participating schools are eligible for prizes.

The Plymouth Whalers have teamed up with Meijer this holiday season to help stock community food pantries by partnering with local elementary schools and providing fun and exciting incentives to help them conduct a successful and fun school-wide food drive with their students and families.

Today we wanted to share the details with you and invite you to apply for one of ten food drive partnerships we’ll offer this year.

Unfortunately, the need for food has never been greater right in our own neighborhoods and throughout Metro Detroit, so we have stepped up to reward and recognize those local schools that are making a big difference with their food drive. It’s a simple, yet effective way for school kids to get involved in community service and feel good about helping as they see their generosity grow and grow into thousands of meals for needy families.

If a school, student council or PTO/PTA was considering or currently planning a school-wide food drive, then we encourage you to fill out and return the attached application by Monday, November 21st to join forces with the Whalers. On Wednesday, November 23rd we will randomly select 10 schools from the applications and contact the school.

Here is the form to fill out.

Here is a list of the prizes that will be donated to participating schools and up to the school to determine, select and distribute the winning classrooms:

1st Place Class:
Pizza Party with 3 Whalers
Visit from Shooter the Mascot
CJ's Pizza & Pepsi Products
Whalers Drawstring Back Pack
Free ticket to an 11-12 Game
$100 Meijer Gift Card

2nd Place Class:
Whalers Drawstring Back Pack
$50 Meijer Gift Card

3rd Place Class:

$25 Meijer Gift Card

Schools may choose their own food pantry or the Whalers will arrange pick up and delivery to the Salvation Army’s Food Pantry or Gleaners for them. To qualify for prizes, schools must collect a minimum of 5 non-perishable items per student and must be coordinated as a school-wide program.
