The Canton Fire Department responded to two residential fires on Saturday.
The Canton Fire Department responded to two separate residential fires over the weekend, according to a press release. On May 4, firefighters responded to a call on the 4100 block of Old Michigan Ave at approximately 5 a.m., according to the report. The Fire Investigation Unit ruled the fire accidental in nature with the report stating that it started in a back room with flames spreading to two adjacent homes before it was contained. The Canton Fire Department said that two of the three homes affected by the early morning fire suffered extensive damage but no injuries were reported. Police: Township residents reported several identity thefts and frauds in the past few week.
Man discovers several credit card applications in his name On April 16, a man reported that an unknown supect attempted to open several credit cards in his name at Kohl's, Office Depot and USAA, according to a police report. The man told police that he received a letter from Kohl's Fraud Department on April 16. The man said he was unsure if the suspect was successful in opening any of the cards and did not know what locations the suspect tried, the report said. The man told police that he had not physically lost possession of his identification or documents recenty. The man had a fraud alert placed on his account, the report said. A letter signed by local public safety directors and fire chiefs was sent to Plymouth Township Fire Chief Mark Wendel earlier this month.
The Plymouth Township Fire Department recently implemented new protocol that Chief Mark Wendel says maximizes resources and limits unnecessary requests for mutual aid. The change comes after Canton Township, Northville Township and Livonia said they would no longer respond to mutual aid medical calls from Plymouth Township when the township's private ambulance firm, Huron Valley Ambulance (HVA), was already responding. The letter explaining the change in mutual aid was signed by Canton Public Safety Director Todd Mutchler, Northville Township Public Safety Director John Werth and City of Livonia Fire Chief Shadd Whitehead. Police: Minor tried to purchase alcohol at Emagine Canton Theatre on Ford Road.
Canton police responded April 28 to a call of a minor misrepresenting his age at the Emagine Canton Theatre on Ford Road, according to a police report. A theater employee working at the cocktail stand told police the minor attempted to order alcohol, but she thought the ID was fake and told the minor she had to call the police, the report said. The employee watched the minor walk into Theater 10, and she then escorted police into the theater to point out the minor, the report said. Police asked the minor about his fake ID, and he told them he got it from another guy. Police: Herriman & Associates on Wilcox Road has had multiple thefts during the night.
Plymouth Township Police responded to a larceny at Herriman & Associates on Wilcox Road on April 9, according to a police report. The company has been a victim of multiple larcenies and the building is under construction. Multiple tools have been stolen, along with six feet of scrap steel beams and 25 feet of copper piping in separate incidences. the report said. The most recent theft was a Milwaukee hand drill which was left on the property. The theft happened sometime between March 15 and March 25. All the thefts took place during the night hours, the report said. The company requested extra police patrols in the area when possible. Police: Man had been living in vacant home and was told to vacate the property.
Canton Police arrested a homeless man for unlawful entry after he was discovered living at a vacant house on the 46000 block of Cherry Hill Road on April 18, according to a police report. A neighbor told police that the man was living at the house for awhile and kept a bicycle at the house. Last week, officers told the man to vacate the house, the report said. On April 18, an officer saw a bicycle under some bushes on the west side of the house. The doors to the house were padlocked, but the rear window of the north side bedroom was broken out, the report said. After an exhaustive area search, Canton police arrested two Ypsilanti men on charges of breaking and entering at the Verizon Wireless store on Michigan Avenue early Monday morning. Nakita Allen Franklin, 20, and Dion Antonio Davis, 22, were arraigned on Wednesday and charged with breaking and entering, a 10-year felony, and interfering with electronic communications, a 2-year felony. Additionally, Franklin was charged with being a second-degree habitual offender, which can enhance a sentence, while Davis was charged with being a fourth-degree habitual offender. Police: Woman damaged mailbox and ran over several lawns.
A Canton woman was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to use due care after running over a mailbox and several lawns near Sheldon and Saltz roads on April 16, according to a police report. Police were flagged down on Saltz Road and were told there was a red car on the lawn area of Sheldon and Saltz. Upon arrival, police saw a mailbox on Sheldon was damaged and in several pieces, and tire tracks leading across the lawns of three houses before heading back out on Sheldon Road, the report said. The Plymouth Township chief is adjusting his resources appropriately from what he has to work with. Everything comes down to money. Plymouth doesn't have the money to support Birmingham-like "overstaffing" of firemen (which does actually provide better odds of survival versus less...). Regardless, no money = less services.   more ›
