2012 in Review: 'It's a Wonderful Life' Actress Visits Plymouth

When Virginia Patton from 'It's a Wonderful Life' visited Plymouth, it became Plymouth-Canton Patch's most-read story of the year.

Editor's note: This is the fourth in a five-part series highlighting the top stories around Plymouth and Canton in 2012.  When former actress Virginia Patton—of It's a Wonderful Life fame—told her story about working on the iconic film after attending a screening of the movie at the Penn Theatre in Plymouth in December, it became Plymouth-Canton Patch's most-read story of 2012.  A report initially aimed at highlighting a unique local story went national shortly after its publication and was featured on the front page of AOL.com, drawing readers from around the country interested in a unique story about one of the actresses from a classic holiday film. 2012 in Review: Canton's Allison Schmitt Makes Waves at Summer Olympics

Team USA Swimmer Allison Schmitt wins three gold, one silver and one bronze in London.

Editor's note: This is the second in a five-part series highlighting five of the top stories around Plymouth and Canton in 2012.  One of the biggest storylines from the Summer Olympic Games in London—and one of the most engaging stories monitored by Plymouth-Canton Patch this year—was the making of a star in Allison Schmitt, a 2008 Canton High School graduate. Armed with a winning style and a knack for strong finishes, Schmitt established a new Olympic record in the 200 freestyle while also swimming the anchor leg of the gold-medal 4x200 freestyle relay as well as the freestyle leg of the world-record setting 4x100 medley. 2012 in Review: Plymouth-Canton School District Adapts to Realignment

Plymouth-Canton closes Fiegel, keeps Gallimore open amid restructuring plans.

Editor's note: This is the first in a five-part series highlighting five of the top stories around Plymouth and Canton in 2012.  Families in the Plymouth-Canton school district saw drastic changes when the 2012-13 school year began. In March, the Plymouth-Canton school board voted to close Fiegel Elementary—a longtime hot-button issue in the district—and in April approved additional plans amid a district-wide restructuring to best utilize the district's buildings.  Gallimore Elementary, which also was up for closure after a recommendation by administrators, was saved by a board vote. Under the plan adopted by the board in April, the displaced Fiegel students were distributed to three elementary schools: Allen, Eriksson and Hulsing.  How …
