Wine, Beer Tasting Event Raises Funds for Plymouth-Canton Classrooms

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Educational Excellence Foundation fundraiser is March 8 at Fox Hills Golf and Banquet Center.

Aficionados of wine, craft beer and local food can sample a wide selection while helping their local school district March 8 at the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Educational Excellence Foundation charity wine tasting event at Fox Hills Golf & Banquet Center in Plymouth Township. The fundraiser, now in its third year, offers more than 60 varieties of wine and beer, including a worldwide wine selection and Michigan-brewed craft beer offerings. Proceeds go toward teacher grants in the Plymouth-Canton school district. The event runs from 7-11 p.m., with pourings taking place from 7-9:30 p.m. According to event chairman Jim Harb, last year’s event drew more than 400 attendees and raised more than $32,000 in grant money for the schools. “It’…

Plymouth Township Grocers Tout Benefits of Recent Renovations

Kroger, Busch's Fresh Food Market in Plymouth Township each undergo facelifts.

Two Plymouth Township grocers' recent renovations could help provide a cornucopia of goods for local shoppers. A recently completed expansion to the Plymouth Township Kroger store, unveiled to patrons at a grand reopening Wednesday, increases the store's shopping space to about 80,000 square feet, allowing additional produce selection and a seating area for the in-store Starbucks. Just across town, Busch's Fresh Food Market is touting its own renovations, a complete reconfiguration of the store to expand its wine and produce areas, among other additions within the store's existing footprint. Busch's Fresh Foods Recalls Handmade Foods Over Contamination Concerns

Sold in Plymouth and other stores between Nov. 28-Dec. 3, the foods may contain pieces of blue plastic, although no illness or injury has been reported.

Busch’s Fresh Food Market today is announcing the voluntary recall of several handmade Busch’s products, due to the unlikely but possible contamination of a purchased ingredient with pieces of blue plastic. Busch’s uses this purchased ingredient in preparing the following voluntarily recalled products: Recalled products would have been purchased from Nov. 28, 2012 through Dec. 3, 2012. Busch’s Fresh Food Market has received no confirmation of illness or injury associated with the consumption of these products. Busch's Fresh Food Market Closing Store Pharmacies by Oct. 21

The Michigan grocer is partnering with CVS and Rite-Aid to handle customers' prescriptions.

In a move that is sure to upset some of its senior clientele, Busch's Fresh Food Market, an Ann Arbor-based grocery company with a location at the Plymouth and Northville border, is closing all pharmacies in its 15 locations across Southeast Michigan by Oct. 21. "We have had to make a very hard decision with regard to our pharmacy business and its relationship to our future growth and long-term strategic plan," Marla Booth, vice president of marketing said. "Our decision to close our pharmacies was not made quickly or lightly. We spent a considerable amount of time discussing the impact and what we would need to do to take care of our guests and our entire pharmacy team." Busch's to Open Supermarket in Canton in 2013, Adding 100 Jobs

Store opening will mark 16th southeastern Michigan location for locally owned supermarket chain.

Busch’s Fresh Food Market, a locally owned supermarket chain, has announced plans to open a new 54,000-square-foot store in Canton, according to a news release from the company. The store, which will anchor the shopping plaza at 225 S. Canton Center Road, is expected to open by summer 2013 and will employ about 100 full- and part-time associates, the news release said. The Canton location will mark the 16th Busch’s supermarket in Michigan. “We’ve wanted to bring Busch’s to the Canton community for several years, and finally the timing and opportunity are right,” CEO John Busch said in the news release. “We look forward to serving our new neighbors in this wonderfully diverse and family-friendly community with the finest quality products …
