Canton Names Gregory Sprys-Tellner New Deputy Fire Chief

Sprys-Tellner began new role on Nov. 26, will earn new badge Dec. 11 at Board of Trustees meeting.

After an intensive assessment center process, Fire Captain Gregory Sprys-Tellner has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief, according to a news release from the Canton Township Department of Public Safety. Sprys-Tellner began his new position on Nov. 26, and is scheduled to formally receive his new badge at the Canton Board of Trustees meeting on Dec. 11, according to the news release. Sprys-Tellner, 46, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Clearly University.   Sprys-Tellner was hired on to the department in 1987 as a Firefighter, and was promoted to Captain in 2010.   During his career he earned his paramedic license and has received numerous fire investigation certifications while assigned to the Fire …

Firefighters Say Christmas Lights Caused House Fire on Nantucket

Canton Township Fire Department doused garage fire; no injuries.

A Christmas light display is being blamed for a Tuesday evening house fire on the 44000 block of Nantucket Drive in Canton Township. Canton firefighters responded after a neighbor, who noticed smoke, called for help around 8:30 p.m. The home was unoccupied, said Canton Fire Chief Tim Dunn, who was on the scene. At least 15 firefighters responded to the incident, he said. Dunn said several strings of Christmas lights had been plugged into a single outlet and attached to a timer. The homeowner, who arrived on the scene as firefighters were at work, asked not to be identified and said she did not want to talk about the the incident. Several neighbors surrounded her, holding umbrellas over her head as she spoke with Dunn and other public …

usually it is a max of six strings together and always use an outside multi-plug that has a trip on it so it goes first if it overheats. make sure you always use outdoor extension cords that run to the main line of the house. this is such a shame because like you said it could happen to any of us.   more ›
