NORAD Tracks Santa Claus En Route to Michigan

Thanks to NORAD, children young and old can keep track of Santa Claus as he journeys around the world toward Michigan

For 364 days out of the year, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) spends its time tracking airplanes, missiles, space ships—anything flying near the United States and Canada.  But on Christmas Eve, a team of volunteers spends the night tracking a very special pilot: Santa Claus.  "We are the only organization that has the technology, the qualifications and the people to do it," NORAD said on its website. "NORAD tracks Santa, but only Santa knows his route, which means we cannot predict where and when he will arrive at your house."  Santa usually starts at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean and travels west, NORAD noticed, meaning he moves from the South Pacific to New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Africa and …

'It's a Wonderful Life' Actress Recalls Classic Film Role in Visit to Plymouth

Virginia Patton of Ann Arbor, who portrayed Ruth Dakin Bailey in 'It's a Wonderful Life,' appeared Sunday at the Penn Theatre in Plymouth.

OUTSIDE DETROIT-- Giving up a promising career in Hollywood to start a family might be a difficult choice for a talented young actress, but for Virginia Patton, the decision paved the way for a wonderful life away from the limelight. Patton, now 86, portrayed Ruth Dakin Bailey in the 1946 Frank Capra classic It’s a Wonderful Life, starring alongside such screen legends as James Stewart and Donna Reed at just 20 years old, but left acting soon afterwards to move to Ann Arbor to pursue a family with husband Cruse W. Moss, a successful automotive executive. Plymouth Welcomes Santa Claus to Kellogg Park

Santa Claus visits downtown Plymouth as city illuminates Christmas tree.

Escorted by local firefighters, Santa Claus made his arrival Friday to downtown Plymouth amidst a celebration of lights and music. The City of Plymouth illuminated its holiday tree in Kellogg Park on Friday as local choirs and children's activities created a festive atmosphere to welcome Kris Kringle to town. If you were at the event, be sure to submit your photos here. If you missed Santa Claus on Friday, fear not. You can still catch Santa at his Kellogg Park house throughout the holiday season. Christmas Mailing Deadlines

The U.S. Postal Service has announced the dates for mailing holiday packages so they arrive by Christmas.

If you're planning to mail holiday packages to military, international or U.S. destinations, the U.S. Postal Service has announced the dates those packages must be in the mail to ensure delivery by Dec. 25.  Here's what you need to know to get your packages to their destinations on time: Post Office Locations Shipping Deadlines Military Shipping Deadlines* Parcel Post service to all APO/FPO/DPO addresses is Nov. 13. Priority and First Class Mail must be sent by Dec. 3 to APO/FPO/DPO AE ZIP 093, and Dec. 10 to all other military addresses.  *The deadline for Dec. 25 delivery to Africa and Central and South America is Dec. 3.
