The City of Plymouth will host an open house on May 22.
City of Plymouth officials and staff members invite residents to attend an open house at the Department of Municipal Services (DMS) on May 22. The open house will celebrate National Public Works Week and Arbor Day. DMS will be exhibiting the equipment used to maintain city streets, water and sewer systems and trees. DMS will give equipment demonstrations using a backhoe, which will be situated next to a sand pile. There will also be small loader digging in the road salt pile. Other equipment will be open for kids to climb through. Kids will also be able to try on safety gear an take home coloring and activity pages. City officials ask drivers to find other parking areas in downtown Plymouth while the work is being finished.
The City of Plymouth Department of Municipal Services announced Wednesday that it will be closing the Gathering to all public uses, including traffic and parking beginning Monday, April 15. During the closure, Target Building, Inc. will remove exhaust fans, make roof repairs and re-shingle the Gathering pavilion. The nature of the work requires the area to be fenced off for the safety of the public, as well as the contractor completing the work. Throughout the project, every effort will be made to keep the sidewalks and the public restrooms at the Plymouth Comfort Station open, according to the Department of Municipal Services. The City of Plymouth Police Department received a grant for gun safety which has allowed the department to obtain gun locks to distribute to residents. The gun locks are cable style locks that can be used for a variety of pistols, shotguns and rifles. Residents can stop by the City of Plymouth Police Department during normal business hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick-up the locks. Each resident may obtain up to three gun locks. They will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for City residents. Thirteen graduates will likely be spread among the Plymouth city and Northville city departments.
With the its new agreement to provide fire services for the city of Plymouth already underway, the city of Northville graduated 13 members of its fire academy Saturday. Fire chief Jim Allen said that he hopes about half will be added to the Plymouth station, in downtown Plymouth, and that half will be added to the Northville station. He added that it was the first class that Northville had graduated in 11 years. The graduates include:

The City of Plymouth clerk's office is reminding residents this winter to keep sidewalks and driveways clear. A memo from the city follows: This will serve as a reminder of your responsibility to keep all sidewalks and driveways clear of snow and ice throughout the coming season.
