Tell us why you won't text and drive and you could win some cool prizes, including smart phone with accessories that promote safe use! Patch has partnered with AT&T to raise awareness about distracted driving.
You've no doubt glanced over at a driver next to you and see him texting. AT&T's "It Can Wait" campaign discourages the dangerous behavior. Distracted driving contributed to 5,474 traffic deaths in 2009 nationwide, and 3,986 accidents in Michigan last year. "Our goal is to save lives," AT&T Chairman & CEO Randall Stephenson said in a release. Patch.com in Michigan is partnering with AT&T to raise awareness about distracted driving. We are launching a series of stories and, in partnership with AT&T, are also rewarding readers who commit to not text and drive. We want to know what stops you from texting and driving. We want to see your photos and read your stories of mom, grandma, foster mother or other significant mother figure in your life. You might win her a nice prize!
Your mom was been there to kiss your tears away as a child, and to help you wrestle with life’s tough questions as you grew older. She’s special – and you want her to know it. We invite you to share her story on Patch. Just upload a photo of your mom or other mother figure in your life – grandma, foster mother, mother-in-law – and tell us in the caption of the photo why the mom in your life rocks. Be sure to tell us what community you and your mom live in, too. You just might win dinner at The Root Restaurant & Bar in White Lake – the Detroit Free Press' Restaurant of the Year – or a $50 gift card at Metals in Time in Royal Oak that we're giving away to moms who touch the lives of readers in our 29 Michigan Patch communities. Out of nearly 2,000 photos submitted, the grand prize choice wins a Mackinac Island adventure.
Sunsets, family reunions, beaches, city skylines, tubing on lakes, Tiger games, wildlife, Mackinac Island and so much more. Those are among the nearly 2,000 images readers shared over eight weeks of the Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. So it was tough to choose just one grand prize winner from the eight weekly winners, but we did: Beth Potts' snapshot of her new husband, Chris, during their honeymoon canoe trip to Isle Royale in Michigan's Upper Peninsula last summer. "We packed everything into the canoe and he navigated our way along the south shore to Moskey Basin, where we camped overlooking the bay," said Potts, of Grosse Pointe Woods. "We've both traveled internationally and around the U.S., but you don't have to leave Michigan …

Early next week, we will announce the grand prize winner selected from all of the weekly winners. The grand prize winner will receive a …
