Driver in Canton Double Fatality Gets 120 Days in Jail

Rufus Thomas Brandon II was sentenced to 120 days in jail Monday at 35th District Court in a double fatality that claimed the lives of two teenage girls who were in his car when he drove through a flashing red light while driving south on Canton Center at Michigan Avenue on July 24, according to the Canton Observer. While Judge Ronald Lowe handed down the jail term on Brandon, the judge allowed him to delay serving his time until he finishes his semester finals at Eastern Michigan University, the report said. Brandon had been driving Brooke Kennedy, 18, and Danielle Beavers, 19, both of Belleville, in his Chevrolet Cavalier from a nearby Ruby Tuesday restaurant where they all worked, the report said.
