Fifth Third Bank Website Attacked

The bank, which has branches in Canton, tells customers their accounts are secure.

WXYZ reports that Fifth Third Bank's website was attacked on Tuesday. Fifth Third has branches on both Ford Road and Joy Road in Canton. According to the report, those who attacked the site did not gain access to customer data. The attack denied service to customers, by flooding the site with traffic.  On Tuesday, the bank posted the following message on its Facebook page: "We're actively monitoring and assessing delays on 53.com. This slowdown has not impacted customer accounts. We are working to restore online connectivity as soon as possible and will provide updates when available." Clarification: This article has been changed to reflect that the site was attacked, but not "hacked."
