Registration Open for Plymouth-Canton's Young Fives, Half-Day Kindergarten

Registration open Feb. 25-28 at Hoben Elementary.

Registration Days for Young Fives and half-day kindergarten will be Feb. 25-28 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Hoben Elementary School, 44680 Saltz Road in Canton. When parents register their child, they will have an opportunity to request the morning or afternoon session for 2013-14 and will receive information regarding orientation to be held later in the spring. Class time offerings will be determined in part by enrollment in each program.  Parents will need to bring the following documents: Shared living arrangements require a parent-homeowner signed affidavit with proof of residency. My boy did the young 5 program. This was a great class to get him ready for 1st grade. Many of his classmates went on to regular kindergarten. Make sure you know what you are in for, ask lots of questions and honestly assess your child's capabilities.   more ›

Parents Push for Half-Day Kindergarten Option

Parents seek support from others in district to offer half-day option in addition to district's full-day kindergarten plans in 2012-13.

Karin Young and Jennifer D'Angelo want to be able to spend a little more time with their children during the day before they eventually spend each day in an elementary classroom. With Plymouth-Canton Community Schools' adoption of an all-day kindergarten format for 2012-13, the Plymouth parents' plans are in jeopardy. The switch to all-day kindergarten ensures continued full per-pupil funding at the kindergarten level; with just a half-day schedule, the district would only receive about half of its per-pupil funding for kindergarten students. I am not saying: do away with Full Day Kinderarten. I am saying please keep the Half Day option open. Half Day K and developmental K is not a new idea...
