Police cite woman on charge of third-degree retail fraud at Kroger in Plymouth Township.
Plymouth Township Police responded March 18 to Kroger, 44525 W. Ann Arbor Road, for a report of a suspected shoplifter in custody, according to a police report. The store’s loss prevention officer told police a woman had concealed several items in her purse while shopping, paid for several other items and left the store with the items still in her purse, the report indicated. According to the report, police recovered unpaid food and makeup from the woman’s purse. The loss prevention officer stopped the woman and escorted her to the loss prevention office until police arrived. Police cited the woman on a third-degree retail fraud charge.

Kroger, Busch's Fresh Food Market in Plymouth Township each undergo facelifts.
Two Plymouth Township grocers' recent renovations could help provide a cornucopia of goods for local shoppers. A recently completed expansion to the Plymouth Township Kroger store, unveiled to patrons at a grand reopening Wednesday, increases the store's shopping space to about 80,000 square feet, allowing additional produce selection and a seating area for the in-store Starbucks. Just across town, Busch's Fresh Food Market is touting its own renovations, a complete reconfiguration of the store to expand its wine and produce areas, among other additions within the store's existing footprint. When a lockout between NHL team owners and players left the Detroit Red Wings' current stable of stars unavailable for an annual fundraiser, the team looked to its bench—its base of alumni residing in Metro Detroit—for help. Chris Osgood of Plymouth and Manny Legace of Novi, two recently retired Red Wings goaltenders, stepped up Tuesday to ring the bell at Kroger in Plymouth Township to collect $2,797 for the Salvation Army. Red Wings for Red Kettles, now in its seventh year, pairs Red Wings players staffers into teams of two around Metro Detroit to compete for bragging rights as the biggest fundraisers for the organization. Plymouth Township Firefighters Local 1496 had its third annual Turkey Drive on Saturday to support the Salvation Army. According to Daniel Atkins from the Plymouth Township Fire Department, the benefit, held at Kroger in Plymouth Township, raised $876.

Westland woman charged with attempted murder, other felonies.
An Oct. 4 attack at Kroger in Plymouth Township resulted in the hospitalization of an employee and a 48-year-old Westland woman facing attempted murder and other felony charges, the Plymouth Observer reported. According to the Observer, a pipe-wielding assailant struck the employee, a 58-year-old St. Claire Shores woman, at least once in the head just before 11 a.m. on Oct. 4. The woman was treated at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia and released, the report said. Plymouth Officer Matt Stoops confronted the attacker, who then dropped the pipe, Lt. The grocery store chain asks customers in 15 states to return the product, because of possible listeria contamination.
The Kroger Co. is asking all Michigan customers, and those in 14 other states, to check their refrigerators for certain Kroger Fresh Selections Tender Spinach 10-ounce packages, which are being recalled due to possible listeria monocytogenes contamination. Pregnant women or people with weakened immune systems could suffer severe illness after eating listeria monocytogenes. According to an alert issued by the Food and Drug Administration, the product is supplied by NewStar Fresh Foods LLC, has UPC code 0001111091649 and a "best if used by" date of Sept. 16. Kroger is recalling Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes for because they may contain soy. The supermarket chain is also making automated phone calls to inform customers about the recall.
Kroger stores are recalling certain Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes because they may contain soy protein. According to a release from Pinnacle Foods Group LLC, the parent company for Aunt Jemima, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy protein may run the risk of an allergic reaction if they consume this product. Pinnacle issued the voluntary recall after it discovered "there may have been a potential cross-contact with product that contained soy protein being produced on the same equipment" according to the release. The company has no reports of illness, and the Food and Drug Administration has been made aware of this recall.
