Monday, February 25
Submitted by Danna Castillo Detroit Catholic Central won the MHSAA D1 Team State Finals held at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek this weekend in probably the most dramatic fashion possible: a come from behind third period pin by 125-pounder Evan Toth, in what was no doubt deja-vu for both the Shamrocks and Toth. Entering this weekend’s final round of the state tournament, Davison High School and the Catholic Central High School boasted a combined 17 MHSAA titles and three runner-up finishes. Both teams featured a combined 21 ranked wrestlers. The highly-anticipated rematch lived up to the hype, as the Shamrocks pulled out a thrilling 29-26 victory. Sunday, January 27

The Mustangs, coming off a loss last Friday to South Lyon East, were tied with Salem for second in the KLAA Central Division at 3-2. The Rocks, which had won four out of their last six games including a 35-31 win on Tuesday in a non-league game against a strong 9-1 Brighton team, looked to pose a challenge for Northville. The smaller but speedy Northville defense was up to the challenge facing a tall Rocks team that boasted several players at six feet. Nate Emmenger's late interception clinches district title for Wildcats.
With the game close and their opponent driving in the final minute of play, Plymouth's Nate Emmenger again was in the right place at the right time for the Wildcats. Emmenger, who has forced pivotal turnovers all season, picked off a Livonia Churchill pass from Seth Suda to seal a 20-14 victory and a district title for the Wildcats. The interception halted a productive late-game drive by the Chargers, who needed just a touchdown and extra point to pull off a come-from-behind victory. Plymouth coach Mike Sawchuk said the clutch defensive play was typical for Emmenger. "I saw (the play) but i haven't seen really what happened, but Nate (Emmenger) always seems to be in the right spot at the right time," Sawchuk said. Emmenger's pick was the …
