Mix matching outfits and smiles with snow and you get a true Michigan moment caught on camera to capture the weekly prize.
Sometimes Michigan's hot spells actually make us long for the cooler days of winter, so this week's Your Patch of Michigan photo contest winner was as welcome as a cool breeze. Among the nearly 100 photographs submitted in last week's Your Patch of Michigan photo contest was Catherine Sareini's picture of girls in matching outfits enjoying a snowy winter day in Dearborn's Fairlane Woods. Sareini's entry was selected as the winner for the week of June 18-24, the fourth week of the Your Patch of Michigan 2012 photo contest. Sareini wins two gift certificates worth a total of $50 to two local businesses. You, too, can share your visions of Michigan in photos in the Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. Every week through Labor Day we'll have …

With more than 100 stunning photos submitted, choosing a winner was not easy.
For many people, Michigan means lakes and beaches. It's the beauty, the fresh air, the beach walks and bonfires and family cottages and memories of vacations that make it special. Megan Gunnell's family has a place up north near Onekama and it was on the Lake Michigan beach there that she took the photo that wins the second week of the Your Patch of Michigan 2012 photo contest. "This photo was taken about 3 years ago. At the time, my daughter Hannah was 3 and my son Elliott was 7," Gunnell said. "We had all just arrived as an extended family up north for the weekend at my mom's place near this beach and the kids were dying to get to the beach and run around. My daughter to this day still bounds with joy and prances around in the sand every…

Out of nearly 2,000 photos submitted, the grand prize choice wins a Mackinac Island adventure.
Sunsets, family reunions, beaches, city skylines, tubing on lakes, Tiger games, wildlife, Mackinac Island and so much more. Those are among the nearly 2,000 images readers shared over eight weeks of the Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. So it was tough to choose just one grand prize winner from the eight weekly winners, but we did: Beth Potts' snapshot of her new husband, Chris, during their honeymoon canoe trip to Isle Royale in Michigan's Upper Peninsula last summer. "We packed everything into the canoe and he navigated our way along the south shore to Moskey Basin, where we camped overlooking the bay," said Potts, of Grosse Pointe Woods. "We've both traveled internationally and around the U.S., but you don't have to leave Michigan …

Our love of sports is a huge part of what makes Michigan what it is, illustrated by the winners of our final weekly Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. During Week 8 - the final week - of the contest, more than 160 photos that share readers' visions of Michigan were submitted for a grand total of nearly 2,000 entries during the eight weeks. Early next week, we will announce the grand prize winner selected from all of the weekly winners. The grand prize winner will receive a …

Readers submit more than 100 photos of their favorite Michigan spots and moments each week.
Michigan is full of school pride and love of nature – both depicted in the winning photos from Week 6 and Week 7 of our Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. In Week 6, which saw more than 100 photos submitted, Terri Melvin Denhof shared a winning photo of a bunch of diehard Michigan State fans with mascot Sparty showing off their devotion to MSU. The Week 7 winning picture was more subdued but just as inspiring, as Bill Beckley captured snow covered tulips braving a late April snowstorm showed. "It demonstrates just how unpredictable Michigan weather can be, but the beauty of a Michigan spring will prevail," said Beckley of Ypsilanti. A close second among the 150-plus submitted photos that week was a snapshot of a storm cloud threatening …
