Margaret Dunning's Model A Pickup Featured in Plymouth Historical Museum Exhibit

"Made in America" will run through June 9 at the Plymouth Historical Museum.

As the Plymouth Historical Museum's benefactress, 102-year-old Margaret Dunning has never had one of cars featured in an exhibit before now.  Museum Executive Director Elizabeth Kerstens said she was amazed to discover that.  Dunning, who built the museum and its addition, owns a classic car collection that includes a prized 1930 Packard 740 roadster that she exhibited at Plymouth's Concours d'Elegance event in 2011 and a 1931 Ford Model A Pickup that is currently the centerpiece of the Plymouth Historical Museum's "Made in America" exhibit.  The pickup was made during the last two weeks of production for that model, according to Kerstens.  "It's been hers (Dunning's) for about 40 years," Kerstens said. Museum Volunteer Chronicles Plymouth History in New Book

Leis Dauzet-Miller to discuss book Feb. 14 at Plymouth Historical Museum.

Plymouth's rich history is profiled in a new book by a volunteer at the Plymouth Historial Museum. Legendary Locals of Plymouth draws upon stories and recollections of some of Plymouth's most notable influencers, including 102-year-old philanthropist and classic car aficionado Margaret Dunning, according to a news release from the museum. Leis Dauzet-Miller, the author of the book, is a museum volunteer, longtime resident and educator.  The book also features stories of the Houghs and Bennetts, who helped put Plymouth on the map; Sanford Burr, whose family history runs deep in Plymouth and Joanne Winkleman Hulce, whose love of the arts has sparked a creative element in the community, according to the news release. Packard Ride With Margaret Dunning Among Museum Benefit Auction Items

Ride with 102-year-old Plymouth icon in classic car among items up for bids to benefit Plymouth Historical Museum.

Bidders can have a chance to ride in a luxurious 1930 Packard driven by 102-year-old Plymouth icon Margaret Dunning at the Plymouth Historical Museum's A Night FOR the Museum fundraiser.  The event takes place Feb. 16 at the Fox Hills Golden Fox. In addition to the ride with Margaret Dunning, local businesses also donated more than 80 items for the live auction and raffle, including tickets to a Detroit Red Wings game, one-year World Deluxe membership to Ancestry.com, golf at Fox Hills and tickets to the Henry Ford in Dearborn. In addition to the live auction and raffles, diners will be entertained during dinner with dulcimer music. Museum's Christmas Exhibit Celebrates Charles Dickens

Plymouth Historical Museum's Dickens Christmas exhibit highlights snowy Victorian streetscapes, holiday cheer.

For Scrooges having a Dickens of a time getting into the holiday spirit, the Plymouth Historical Museum's latest exhibit might be the perfect cure for the Bah, Humbugs.  The museum opens A Dickens Christmas, an exhibit honoring Charles Dickens's 200th birthday, starting at 1 p.m. today. The exhibit will run 1-4 p.m. each Wednesday, Friday and Saturday through Jan. 13, Museum Executive Director Elizabeth Kerstens said. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 6-17. The museum will offer free admission, however, from 6:30-9 p.m. Friday when the City of Plymouth lights its holiday tree and welcomes Santa Claus' arrival. There will be a Santa's Workshop for children in the museum basement.  The museum also will have a craft show, …

Plymouth Historical Museum Kicks Off First Lady Gown Exhibit

Museum showcases inaugural fashions in exhibit beginning today.

With the presidential campaign in full swing, it's only fitting the Plymouth Historical Museum is kicking off its exhibit on first ladies' inaugural gowns today. Like the election cycle, this display is a fixture every four years at the museum, Elizabeth Kerstens, the museum's executive director, said. It will run through Nov. 7. The dresses, on loan from the Frankenmuth Historical Association, are reproductions of the actual dresses on display at the Smithsonian. The replica gowns were created under the design direction of Don Nagel and David Zeese and based on the pair's drawings of the actual gowns at the Smithsonian, as photography of that exhibit is prohibited, Kerstens said. Plymouth Philanthropist Margaret Dunning Turns 102

Classic car enthusiast and historical museum benefactor turned 102 on Tuesday.

Margaret Dunning, a Plymouth philanthropist and car enthusiast known for her trademark 1930 Packard 740 roadster, turned 102 on Tuesday. Dunning was featured in a New York Times piece in 2011 highlighting her unique car, which still is 20 years younger than its driver. Plymouth Historical Museum Director Elizabeth Kerstens said Dunning remains one of the community's most active residents and was integral in the formation of the local museum. "Margaret has been the museum's benefactor," Kerstens said. "She built the museum. She donated the money for the museum, as it stands today, to be built.
