Meijer Expands Michigan-Made Product Selection in Canton, Statewide

Michigan-based retailer to feature 55 new Michigan-made grocery products.

Canton-area shoppers should be seeing some more locally made products on store shelves at Meijer, thanks to a new Michigan-made initiative.  Meijer has expanded its program that supports Michigan small businesses to feature 55 new Michigan-made grocery products in all its stores statewide, Meijer co-Chairman Doug Meijer announced this week.  “Meijer is committed to supporting Michigan businesses, and the Made in Michigan initiative is a great opportunity to highlight some fantastic small businesses throughout the state,” Meijer said in a news release. “The response we received from our customers last year about this initiative was overwhelming, which is why we decided to further invest and expand this selection into all our Michigan stores…

ACO Hardware Stores Raise Funds for Gleaners

Buy several Michigan-made brands and the company donates a portion of the price to help feed needy families.

Farmington Hills-based ACO Hardware is partnering with Gleaners Community Food Bank to raise funds that will help feed hungry families in Michigan. From now through Feb. 24, customers who purchase Faygo pop, Better Made snacks and Dearborn Brand sausage – all Michigan-made products – at ACO stores across Michigan will be helping Gleaners deliver millions of pounds of emergency food to soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties.  According to the ACO Hardware website, the company will donate 5 percent of the purchase price of each item sold to Gleaners.  There are two ACO stores in the Plymouth-Canton area:

Buy Michigan Now Festival Spotlights Local Businesses in Northville

The weekend festival promotes Michigan made products to help boost the state's economy.

The fourth annual Buy Michigan Now Festival is underway this weekend in downtown Northville. The festival runs through 5 p.m. Sunday and is a hometown celebration of “Buy Michigan Week.” With a little something for everyone, the festival includes sidewalk sales, entertainment, street vendors, activities for children and booths featuring Michigan-based businesses from across the state. Admission to the festival is free. HGTV celebrity Cari Cucksey was on hand during the festival on Friday to meet customers in her Northville Square shop, The RePurpose Store. Cucksey owns and operates the store and RePurpose Estate Services. Cucksey also hosts HGTV’s popular show, Cash and Cari, which airs Mondays at 10 p.m. local time. Samsational Jewelry …

B. Ella Bridal Moving From Downtown Northville to Plymouth

The bridal store is moving to Plymouth's Main Street.

One of the two bridal stores, B. Ella Bridal, in Downtown Northville is moving. B. Ella Bridal is moving to 570 S. Main St. in Plymouth. Currently, the store is discounting items at up to 50 percent off. According to its Facebook page, it has another location in Ann Arbor. It is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays. The remaining bridal shop in downtown Northville is Elizabeth's Bridal Manor.

From snow sports to pet pampering, Plymouth offers plenty of creative solutions for procrastinators.

For shoppers scrambling for last-minute gift ideas, Plymouth merchants offer a wide array of solutions. Doug Fopma of Isabella's Copper Pot has several suggestions for those shopping for home and kitchen items. A slow juicer made by Huron, he says, is a popular choice this holiday. The device extracts juice from fruits and vegetables using a process that creates a higher-quality final product, he said. Another choice is the SodaStream soda maker. This accessory uses its included carbon dioxide tank and users' own tap water supply to create carbonated water. A sample pack of flavored syrups is included to create flavored sodas, or users can try to be creative and mix a variety of fruit juices to the carbonated water for their own creations…

Special Canton Farmers Market Sunday includes a cornucopia of delights for Thanksgiving and beyond.
