Stefan Noesen, Tom Wilson Return to Plymouth Whalers From NHL Training Camps

Whalers host Mississauga on Friday, the Soo on Saturday, Erie on Monday afternoon.

Stefan Noesen came to the Plymouth Whalers' front office Thursday morning in a hurry. He was looking for a package of hockey sticks shipped from the Ottawa Senators' National Hockey League training camp.  The package arrived  - on time - and Noesen went down to the Whalers' locker room to prepare for this weekend's upcoming action. It's a Whalers Wrap-Around Weekend this weekend as Plymouth (21-13-5-3) hosts Mississauga on Friday at 7:05 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and Erie on Monday at 2 p.m. at Compuware Arena. Noesen's sense of urgency is understandable.  He was suspended for ten games on Dec. 5 against Oshawa and hasn't played since.  Because of the suspension, he also missed a chance to play for the United States …

Coach Expects Four Whalers Selected in NHL Draft to Play in Plymouth Next Season

Stefan Noesen, Rickard Rakell go in first round; Whalers coach speaks of players ' development cycle.

Mike Vellucci had a pretty good idea the Plymouth Whalers could be well represented in the first round even before the NHL Entry Draft began last week. Vellucci figured right winger Stefan Noesen could be selected anywhere from 20th to 25th and that center Rickard Rakell could fall into the 25th to 30th pick range. The Whalers head coach was right on both accounts. Noesen was selected by Ottawa with this 21st overall pick and Rakell went to Anaheim with the 30th selection, marking the first time since 2001 the Whalers had two players selected in the first round. “Obviously, we’re very proud of the players, but I think it speaks volumes for the organization and the way we’re developing players,” Vellucci said Tuesday. I watched both players last season and I think Rickard Rakell has the most upside if he developes a little toughness. Stefan Noesen also is very talented but must become a two way player.   more ›
