Kerry Bentivolio to Assume Congressional Office Today

113th Congress to swear in today in Washington, D.C.

Congressman-elect Kerry Bentivolio (R-Milford) will assume office today, beginning a two-year term representing Michigan's newly realigned 11th Congressional District. Bentivolio is among 84 freshmen representatives taking part in today's swearing-in ceremonies. Bentivolio, who defeated Syed Taj (D-Canton) in the Nov. 6 election, will succeed U.S. Rep. David Curson (D-Belleville), who won a special election on Nov. 6 to fill the remaining weeks of former U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter's (R-Livonia) term. McCotter resigned his office in July amid a petition-fraud scandal and leak of a television script to Detroit media. Curson is filling the remainder of former U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter's (R-Livonia) term after winning a Nov. 6 special election. U.S. Rep.-elect Kerry Bentivolio (R-…

Updated: Thaddeus McCotter Declares Presidential Aim

After weeks of rumors, the 11th Congressional District Republican confirms his plans to run for president.

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Livonia, has a brand-new campaign website, one more step in his bid for the White House. The site, www.McCotter2012.com, went live this week but simply stated "hmm..." until early Friday morning, when it was updated with a photo of the newest candidate and a series of statements. McCotter has positioned his budding campaign with a statement making God and business his priorities. On Thursday, David Shepardson, reported for the Detroit News' Washington Bureau, that McCotter will file papers to make his predential campaign bid official and pave the way for transferring existing campaign funds. McCotter's website declares five campaign points: that liberty comes from God, not the government; "sovereignty is in our …

I did what you asked and commented on the results. The THOMAS legislative database at the Library of Congress makes it easy. Co-sponsoring is easy (and represents 131 of the 139 "hits" from the search you recommended, which only covers the current 112th Congress); sponsoring legislation that goes all the way to the President's desk -- that's an achievement. By that standard, from 2003 to the …   more ›
