Former Red Wings Goalie Chris Osgood to Speak Wednesday at Bird Elementary

Plymouth resident and three-time Stanley Cup winner to participate in Detroit Red Wings Assembly Program.

Three-time Stanley Cup Champion and Plymouth resident Chris Osgood will visit Bird Elementary in Plymouth on Wednesday as part of the Detroit Red Wings School Assembly Program sponsored by the Detroit Red Wings Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and The Kroger Company of Michigan, according to a news release. The program, which is free to students but closed to the public, will take place from 2-3 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Former Red Wing Jiri Fischer visited Smith Elementary students in January this year as part of the assembly program. Detroit Red Wings Raise $24,438.69 for Salvation Army

Former Red Wings Chris Osgood, Manny Legace raise $2,797 from donors in Plymouth.

Submitted by the Detroit Red Wings: Detroit Red Wings Head Coach Mike Babcock and Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland successfully defended their bell ringing title on Tuesday as the four duos of Red Wings personnel brought in a grand total of $24,438.69 for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign at stops throughout Metro Detroit, including Plymouth.  During a two-hour span of bell ringing at Hiller’s Market in downtown Northville, Babcock and Holland raised $13,462 for the nonprofit, which included an anonymous $5,000 donation. When a lockout between NHL team owners and players left the Detroit Red Wings' current stable of stars unavailable for an annual fundraiser, the team looked to its bench—its base of alumni residing in Metro Detroit—for help. Chris Osgood of Plymouth and Manny Legace of Novi, two recently retired Red Wings goaltenders, stepped up Tuesday to ring the bell at Kroger in Plymouth Township to collect $2,797 for the Salvation Army.  Red Wings for Red Kettles, now in its seventh year, pairs Red Wings players staffers into teams of two around Metro Detroit to compete for bragging rights as the biggest fundraisers for the organization. Updated: Plymouth Resident, Longtime Red Wing Chris Osgood Announces Retirement

Goalie won 3 Stanley Cups with Red Wings

Plymouth resident and longtime Detroit Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood announced his retirement today, the Detroit Free Press is reporting. Osgood led the Red Wings to Stanley Cups in 1998 and 2008, and served as backup goaltender during the team's 1997 title run. Osgood, 38, made his announcement during a conference call at noon today, the Free Press reported. Today's news contradicts a report Monday, when the Free Press reported the Wings were bringing Osgood back for another season. Check out the full story here.
