2013 Plymouth Ice Festival Promises Weekend Full of Activities

Here is a look at some of the events and features of this year's Plymouth Ice Festival.

The Plymouth Ice Festival gets under way just weeks from now, running from Jan. 18-20 in downtown Plymouth.  Apart from the chainsaws and scultors, however, there is plenty of fun to be had downtown during the (hopefully) chilly weekend. The festivities are preceded by a pub crawl in downtown Plymouth on Jan. 12. According to the Plymouth Ice Festival website, here is what you can expect at this year's festivities: Greenhills School Ice Skating Rink For the first year at the Ice Festival, families can take a spin around Kellogg Park on a downtown ice rink. Plymouth Ice Festival to Add Skating Rink, Snowboarding Tricks in 2013

When throngs of visitors descent upon downtown Plymouth in January to view sculpted spectacles at the 2013 Plymouth Ice Festival, they'll also find an array of new activities at the yearly event. Festival promoter Sam Walton of Signature Professional Group said in addition to ice sculptures planned around Kellogg Park in Downtown Plymouth, the ice festival will bring a skating rink downtown. The rink, made of a weatherproof synthetic skating surface that simulates ice, allows skaters to use regular ice skates without the risk of mild temperatures ruining the fun, Walton said. Plymouth Approves 2013 Ice Festival as For-Profit Event

City urges promoter to turn over financial records from 2012 event, OKs plans for 2013 festival as for-profit event.

The Plymouth City Commission on Monday ensured that the 2013 Plymouth Ice Festival will continue as planned from Jan. 18-20, 2013, in Kellogg Park, but the festival no longer will be a nonprofit event. The city voted to approve permits for the event submitted by promoter Sam Walton of Signature Professional Group, which specify the event now is a privately run festival.  While Walton handled promotion for the 2012 Ice Festival, the event technically was managed by the Plymouth International Ice Festival Board of Directors, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that included Walton and city officials.
