Wayne County Commissioner <b>Kevin M. McNamara</b> is a leader with a career that spans government, higher education and corporate management and sales. His unwavering commitment is to significantly enhance Wayne County’s infrastructure to help improve the everyday lives of residents and businesses. He is a proponent of increasing transparency in government for the benefit of citizens. McNamara frequently interacts with citizens, businesses and all types of groups and collaborates with Wayne County Commission colleagues to develop innovative ways to move the county forward while adhering to the difficult budget constraints facing all government entities in Michigan and across the country.

In November 2006, McNamara was elected Wayne County Commissioner for District 11. He was reelected in November 2010. McNamara represents the communities of Belleville, Canton Township, Sumpter Township, Van Buren Township and Wayne.

As a commissioner, McNamara chairs the Youth Services Committee (created in January 2011 via a resolution he presented) that oversees all funds and services related to youth programs in the county to include Head Start, juvenile justice, indigent childcare and the juvenile courts. He is vice chair of the Committee on Public Services, which oversees the county&#39;s roads and bridges and parks and recreation operations. McNamara also serves as a member on the Ways and Means Committee; Public Safety Committee; Technology Task Force; and the Transparency in Wayne County Government Task Force. Additionally, he is a member of the Wayne County Head Start Governing Board.

McNamara is a delegate to SEMCOG, southeast Michigan&#39;s regional planning agency, where he serves as Chairman on the Executive and Finance committee. He is also active on committees which oversee transportation and infrastructure projects.

Prior to his election as Wayne County Commissioner, McNamara served on the Schoolcraft College Board of Trustees from 2001-2006. On this board, he was Secretary from 2005-2006, and was on the audit committee from 2001-2005.

McNamara’s professional career has spanned several decades working in sales and management for an environmental company.

From 1992-2005, McNamara was on the board of directors of the McNamara Scholarship Fund, which provided more than $1 Million in tuition assistance for Wayne County students.

McNamara is a proponent of being intricately involved in the community, beyond public service, through non-profits and associations. His participation includes contributions to organizations that include the Belleville Chamber of Commerce, Canton Chamber of Commerce, Canton Friendship Church, Detroit Historical Society, Homes for Our Troops, Lions Club, Most Holy Trinity Church, Wayne Chamber of Commerce and Wayne Rotary.

McNamara is a graduate of Livonia Stevenson High School and earned an Associate’s degree in math and science. He lives in Canton and is married to Aida with two children, Cullan and Jamie.
