Plymouth Parade Celebrates July 4

Plymouth's annual 4th of July parade will travel downtown on Main Street Thursday morning.

Plymouth will celebrate July 4 with its annual Good Morning USA Parade starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Traveling on Main Street, south from Theodore St. to Hartsough St., the parade is coordinated by Fred Hill and Pam Kosteva.

“I started the parade 17 years ago.  The previous parade seemed to have lost some of its spunk, and I was fortunate enough to have seen a number of parades in action as I traveled with my briefcase drill team to many different events. That experience was valuable in re-inventing Plymouth's parade,” Hill said.

Wes Graff, president of the Plymouth Community Chamber of Commerce, said, “Our theme honors our military and the fine work they do.”

There will be plenty to see at this year’s parade, such as the Martin Luther King High School Marching Band from Detroit, Michigan Wheelmen, Redford Township’s Unicycle Club, and World War II Veterans, to name just a few.

Large balloons can be found in the parade this year as well, including a 30-foot Uncle Sam balloon and a 30-foot Kermit the Frog balloon.

“We bill ourselves as a variety show in motion.  We’re a small town with a ‘big town’ parade,” said Hill.

Because the parade offers fun attractions for everyone, the streets of Downtown Plymouth are expected to be lined with people during the parade.  Lots of community members and residents from other surrounding areas will come to celebrate, sporting their red, white, and blue.

“It’s a really nice showcase of so many different groups within the community.  We are fortunate to have such a beautiful main street downtown, and having a parade travel through is just so picturesque,” Graff said.
