Police: Canton Woman Assaults Boyfriend with a Knife

The woman accused the man of cheating after reading a text message on his phone to another woman, police said.

A 29-year-old Canton woman was arrested on charges of aggravated felony assault and resisting a police officer after attacking her 30-year-old live-in boyfriend with a knife on Sept. 27, according to a police report.

Police said that the couple have a 1-year-old son together.

The man, a Westland resident, told police that the woman went through his phone and accused him of cheating after reading a recent text to another woman. He said she began to punch him, and he attempted to hold her down to get her to stop when she bit him on his left arm, according to the report.

The man said the woman then ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife with 8-inch blade and chased him with it, the report said.

The man said he attempted to hide in the child's bedroom, but the woman put her arm in the door to keep it from closing. She was swinging her arm around with the knife in her hand and cut the man's face twice, according to the police report.

Police said the woman was very upset and hard to understand.

She told police that after looking through the man's cell phone, she repeatedly ask him to leave. She would not say what made her mad or why she asked him to leave, the report said.

The woman told police that the man began punching and kicking her and she bit his arm while fighting back and got the knife to protect herself. She said first the man had dragged her down the stairs by her hair, but then changed her story, saying he dragged her up the stairs. Police noticed towels folded on the stairs were not knocked out of place, the report said.

The woman also told police she cut him in the doorway upstairs while waiving the knife at him to stay back. Police said they were suspicious of how the man was able to get past her to the doorway if he had been following her, as she stated, the report said.

The woman was placed under arrest, but refused to give up the child she was holding. The child had to be forcefully removed from her arms, the report said.

The man's son was turned over to him, while the woman's other child was turned over to her mother, who was called to the scene, the report said.

The man refused medical attention and said he did not wish to prosecute, the report said.
