Canton Public Library to Host Kiwanis Storytime

Kiwanis volunteers will be reading children's books at the Canton Public Library.

Kiwanis Storytime is scheduled as one of the last National Reading Month activities at the .

Several volunteers from the Kiwanis Club of Canton will be reading children’s stories on Wednesday from 7 to 7:45 p.m.

The second time Kiwanis members have volunteered this way at the library. About 30 children attended the first event, held last August.

Preschool and kindergarten are the age group the library is aiming for, said Kristen Kostielney, program specialist at the library. Kostielney is also a Kiwanis Club of Canton member.

"It's one thing for me to read," she said, "but it's good for the kids to hear other people."

The partnership between the library happened organically, she said.. Kiwanis has supported other library programs; Kostielney was a speaker at one of Kiwanis's meetings.

"We love working with other community organizations," Kostielney said about the library's partnership with Kiwanis Club of Canton.

Four volunteers will be reading different stories, Janet Ott, secretary with Kiwanis, said. The exact book titles have not been decided yet.

“Some people might have a favorite,” said Ott, “a book they read to their child or grandchild.”

The library will also provide a snack with the reading program, Ott said.
