Updated: Missing Canton Man Died of Drugs, Alochol
The body of Matthew Morris was found April 1
Matthew Morris, the 36-year-old Canton man who went missing in January, died of a mixture of drugs and alcohol, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's office.
A Wayne County spokesperson apologized after mixing up reports, originally saying Morris died of natural causes, which was reported by The Canton Observer.
The spokeswoman told the Observer that there was a case of mistaken identity with someone who had a similar name to Morris.
Morris' death was ruled accidental, though the type of drugs Morris used is unknown at this time, The Observer reported.
Morris' body was discovered April 1 in a marshy area off Ford Road in Westland, not far from where his car was found parked at Emagine Canton with a flat tire.
Morris' disappearance prompted his friends to begin a desperate search.
Friends of Morris said that he struggled with anxiety issues and had been in and out of hospital care, but always checked in with his coworkers at Kroger with his whereabouts.
